The series, which also stars Helen Mirren, could become the next ‘Tulsa King’ for Paramount+
A trailer has dropped for the upcoming Paramount+ crime drama MobLand, where Pierce Bronson plays the head of the Harrigan crime family, Helen Mirren portrays his loyal wife, and Tom Hardy is their fixer. The show centers around a war between the Harrigans and a rival crime family, the Stevensons. Hardy’s character gets caught in the middle of the conflict, which tests his loyalties.
“Power is a hungry thing, and there’s always a rat bastard looking to take what’s mine,” Brosnan says in the trailer, which shows a bloody gun battle, a car chase, a funeral procession, piles of cash, and a vicious stabbing. “My wife’s the brains behind the charm. She holds me together. That makes her the most dangerous of all.”
MobLand, which debuts March 30 on the streaming platform, has a complex backstory. It was originally conceived as a Showtime spinoff of the Liev Schreiber crime series Ray Donovan entitled The Donovans. The plan was to explore the early days of the Donovan family, but that concept was ultimately scrapped, and it morphed into a standalone Paramount+ series without any connection to Ray Donovan. Guy Ritchie is on board as executive producer, and he directed some of the episodes. The cast also includes Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, and Anson Boon.
This is not the first time Paramount+ has given the green light to a series about organized crime starring an aging action movie icon. One of their biggest hits is Tulsa King, which features Sylvester Stallone as a mob kingpin who sets up an operation in the sleepy town of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The first two seasons were enormous hits, and the series has already been renewed for a third.
