Kiss fans have launched a petition to make Ace Frehley – guitarist and co-founder of the band who died on October 16 at the age of 74 – an astronaut.
The petition is found on Change.org and is an attempt by the group's fan base to convince NASA to award the guitarist with the status of honorary astronaut. Why an astronaut? Simple: the nickname Frehley was called was, in fact, Spaceman.
“When he died suddenly at 74, he was still just playing the character of a space cadet,” reads the emphatic petition submission. «He had never really managed to become one. In honor of his memory, of all the lives he directly and indirectly influenced and of his last unfulfilled wish, NASA should name Ace Frehley an honorary astronaut with the rank of “captain”, because a celestial being of his caliber does not deserve a less solemn farewell than this. His latest countdown should be his best yet.”
NASA has not yet commented on the petition.
