There Giorgio Gaber Foundation announces the second edition of the The place of thought prize-Scripture for theater-canzone. The initiative, aimed at the new authors of this expressive form, takes place overall from April 28th al July 24, 2025.
The Teatro-Canzone is a genre that unites theatricality, word and music. Its structure consists of an alternation of songs and monologues. More precisely, the sung parts take turns to recited parts. This represents its specificity and defines it as an autonomous theatrical genre. Another peculiar feature of the Teatro-Canzone is represented by the topics addressed. The genre is inspired and wonders about the conditions of the contemporary world. Even where episodes of the past are told, they are updated with references to today.
The The place of thought award was established last year by Gaber Foundation. It is dedicated to talents who want to compare with a theme, using the form of the theater-canzone. Their creations must translate into reflections through a song and a monologue, capable of constituting an accomplished expressive and literary form.
The initiative starts the April 28, 2025. Those who want to participate can present their work until11 June 2025. The July 24, 2025 The winner's proclamation on the occasion of the performance of the Viareggio Prize – Rèpaci. The latter is a prestigious literary prize founded in 1929 by Leonida Rèpaci. Among his winners, there are Umberto Saba, Elsa Morante, Carlo Emilio Gadda, Italo Calvino, Natalia Ginzburg, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Salvatore Quasimodo, Alberto Moravia, Sandro Veronesi and Alda Merini.
