Britpop is back in the spotlight thanks to the success of Oasis' reunion tour, which followed Blur's acclaimed return by a few months, and also thanks to two of the most popular albums of the year such as “More” by Pulp and “Antidepressants” by Suede. The sound of the Cool Britannia of the 90s, in short, never seems to want to fade away. The online magazine Radio “In an imagination dominated by 'Live Forever', 'Parklife' and 'Disco 2000' – writes Radio Pulp, from Blur to Manic Street Preachers – there were bands who crossed the season with different approaches, carrying with them an indie legacy or remaining on the fringes of the great media narrative. These twenty songs show how that season was broader than its most celebrated hits.”
Here, then, is Radio X's ranking of the “twenty most underrated Britpop singles” (full report here). On OndaRock we have published our ranking of the best Britpop albums of all time.

Even the American magazine Pitchfork returned to the topic, relaunching its ranking of the 50 best Britpop records, with these words: “Britpop? It's just a bad-sounding word – Jarvis Cocker of Pulp once told us – I don't like the nationalistic idea; it wasn't a music that waved flags. It was really in bad taste when it was called that because it was as if someone was trying to appropriate a kind of alternative culture, stick a British flag on it and take it merit”. But – Pitchfork further underlines – “Britpop, by any other name, would still have been a phenomenon capable of offering a new, exciting soundtrack for British youth”. Bands like Suede, Blur, Oasis, Elastica and Pulp – adds the magazine – “have captured the charm and eccentricities of their country, also eliminating their frustrations with class and community, all seasoned with a provocative and ironic glamour”.
