The Mass it is the project of Serena Mastrulli And Marco Zamuner and this year, after 6 years of apprenticeship, they pushed the accelerator with a project that began with the feat con Torment in the song Real Music and, now, with the participation in Sanremo Giovani con Mary.
THE MASS IN SANREMO GIOVANi 2025
On stage, in the first preliminary episode, she went alone Serena While Mark remained backstage but, at our microphones, they both present themselves (as is right) to talk about the journey from the beginning to today, starting right from the end, from Sanremo Giovani:
“The mood is to have fun but, of course, there is a bit of anxiety when you go on stage and it could have been done better but since it's the first time we brought it home in a dignified way”
Can you explain to us the song you brought to the competition, Maria?
“The idea that started it all was to make a tech-house piece with traditional, popular influences. The reference is El Sueno in Italian, starting from the beat and then tracing the whole line. The title 'Maria' was thought of only two days before signing up”
Before Sanremo Giovani there was the feat with Tormento, how do you go from a path with the lights off to the big explosion?
“We Sanremo Giovani are seeing it as the continuum of the growth path that began in 2019. They have been years of gradual publication and the public, the radios, have welcomed everything and now this piece is being added to grow.
We have learned not to look too much at the outside and think about our own path, authenticity is always rewarded and we know that at the beginning there cannot be a great response if we propose something different. You can pretend to be something you're not but it gets tiring and people notice.”
Let's get back to the race. What do you think of what the jury said?
“I expected it, I was ready for the fact that we would talk about autotune and authenticity. We play with it a lot and we don't believe that it can limit authenticity. In our case it's a choice of sound, like the distortion in guitars.
Only in Italy do we talk about it as a problem, abroad all the bigger ones have it and use it a lot. We still carry on the 'bel canto' school, not experimentation. Instead, we continue with the songs and are trying to give the right weight to the feedback we receive.”
What do you want to do once the Sanremo cauldron is finished?
“Disco, we want to release the album and play it live. We would like to have everything done by spring considering that the label already wanted it in November. For now we are happy to have this commitment but probably then we will talk about it in the spring”.
What do you expect from this Sanremo Giovani?
“Expanding the audience a lot, which for now we have done little by little from song to song. This is a chance to make a leap and become something on the Italian scene. Including the haters, obviously.
There was a comment in which they told us that we had called the song Maria for Maria De Filippi but we don't come from talent or Amici so it didn't make sense”
