For many of the fans of the most epic and histrionic metal, the publication of the hat -trick “Twilight of the Idols”, “Down Among the Deadmen” and “Traveller” remains set in the heart as one of the most memorable moments of the history of the genre of the last thirty years. What the Americans The Lord Weird Slough Feg (moreover, with the support of the Italian Drangoheart Records) had managed to make in those now historical albums, thanks to their unique mixture of Epic Metal at the Manilla Road/first Brocas Helm, phrasing in smell Iron Maiden/Satan and references to the folk fascinations of the unforgettable Thin Lizzy, in fact he guaranteed him one. Haddler cloister of faithful and very passionate fans; Fans who followed them even when the long wave of the initial clamor began to diminish, the frequency of publications began to dilate and the band's existence itself seemed to be in a strong doubt.
The moment of farewell, however, has not yet come: six years after the previous full-length, “New Organon”, the barefoot band of the staircase Mike is ready to return to the market with a full-bodied EP of seven pieces, the present here “Traveler Supplement 1: The Ephemeral Glades” which, as the title suggests, is nothing more than the continuation, even at the stylistic level, of the saga started with the saga started with the saga started with the saga. The acclaimed album “Traveller” in 2003. To want to tie these two releases even more, the EP was recorded in the same study in which the aforementioned full-length, the Trakworx Studios of San Francisco was carried out, and with the same producer, Justin Weis.
The breakdown of the “Knife World” opening track sweeps away any possible residual doubt: our really seem to have at least partially put aside the 70's drives that had characterized, in a more or less heavy way, the works subsequent to the splendid “Atavism” to regain their more muscle and metal soul, even without denying anything of their recent past and rereading everything in the light of the experience gained in the light of the experience. of militancy.
The song, a splendid metal ride wedge of tasty phrasing in Twin Guitar in pure The Lord Weird Slough Feg, shows off, as well as an extremely organic sound (decidedly far of the bombastic and plasticized productions that rage now today), a barefoot Mike as always dominant of the scene with its recognizable style to the six ropes and its peculiar voice, well. Assisted by Angelo Tringali's excellent work on the second guitar and the excellent rhythmic section made up of Adrian Majestas on bass and Telluric Austen Krater on drums.
Despite the declared intention to want to re -establish the ranks with their most metallic production, the EP still remains very dynamic and varied, in the best tradition of ours: it goes from the Epic/Doom hints of the instrumental “The Black Circle” to the most classically metal vibrations of “Mission On Mithril” or “Vargr Reprise”, while in songs such as “The Ephemeral Glades” or “Magnetic” Fluctuations “(perhaps the best of the lot) you can appreciate how colorful to be the world of The Lord Weird Slough Feg, even in a job with such clear intentions. Apart from the beautiful “Ice Shelf Stomp”, mention, in which all the love of ours for the aforementioned Thin Lizzy emerges, thanks to an almost moving guitar work, despite the piece it still remains beautiful 'rough'.
However, the most important one is missing from all the considerations: there is magic, in the music of The Lord Weird Slough Feg, and this applies more than any praise or technical consideration can be done about it: this EP is only yet another confirmation. For those who love this type of magic, an unmissable job.
