Tems is closing out 2023 with the sound of new music as the Nigerian singer has shared “Not an Angel,” her second single in as many months.
“This song is about knowing your worth and moving on in life from anything holding you back,” Tems said of the track, which was accompanied by a visualizer directed by Nakato and Lemost.
“Not an Angel,” which follows her recent single “Me & U,” was written entirely by Tems and co-produced by her and Sarz. The track is only the second song Tems has written and released as a solo artist since her If Orange Was a Place EP arrived in 2021.
In February, she won her first Grammy for her feature on Future’s “Wait For U,” whose hook is derived from her song “Higher”; Tems was also nominated for her work on Beyonce’s Renaissance. She was also nominated for a Best Original Song Oscar for writing “Lift Me Up,” performed by Rihanna for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
