The Recording Academy prides itself on having shaped the Grammy Awards into the most coveted award in music through a peer-based voting process. An artist's track record with the show can be career-defining, even history-making. People from all sectors of the industry influence who gets nominated and who takes home the gold. But for Taylor Swift, the most influential voices in the Grammy Awards race aren't the songwriters, producers, or engineers who fill out ballots — it's the Swifties who make her presence in music inescapable.
Last week, Swift earned six nominations at the 2025 Grammy Awards for her latest studio album The Tortured Poets Department. She's nominated for both Song and Record of the Year for “Fortnight” and the album itself is up for Album of the Year. The slate of nominations made Swift the first women in Grammys history to be nominated for Album of the Year seven times. She was previously tied with Barbra Streisand. It's her fourth consecutive nomination in the category.
“You guys have been so wonderful about getting into this album and really understanding where I was coming from with it and you made it, by far, the biggest debut week I've ever had of an album,” Swift told the audience at the Toronto stop on the Eras tour on Thursday night. “And you kept that album at No. 1 for nearly four months. And the most recent thing that you did, because everything that happens is a direct reflection of the passion that you show, is you guys got this album nominated for six Grammys. It's so unbelievable, so thank you.”
The Tortured Poets Department arrived in April, marking Swift's fifth album in the past five years, not including the re-recordings of her earlier studio albums. Swift first released the 16-track standard edition of the album, then extended it a few hours later with the release of The Anthologyadding an additional 15 songs. Over the course of the year, the singer-songwriter has released 34 different editions of the album through physical variations available on vinyl, CD, and cassette and limited edition digital downloads. The Anthology will be released on vinyl later this month.
The Tortured Poets Department spent 15 weeks at Number One on the Billboard 200. Now in its 29th week on the chart, the album currently sits at Number Nine, up from 11 last week. “It's truly blown my mind,” Swift said of how her fans have embraced the record.
In addition to Album, Song, and Record of the Year, Swift is nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Music Video at the 2025 Grammy Awards.
