It’s a big time for Sunset Boulevard. Not only has the Broadway revival, starring Nicole Scherzinger, garnered acclaim, but the film it’s based on is celebrating its 75th anniversary.
To celebrate, Paramount announced a 4K Blu-ray of the film, marking the first time the film will be released in UHD. The anniversary edition will drop on August 5 and is available to preorder today.
Sunset Boulevard [4K UHD + Blu-Ray + Digital]
Sunset Boulevard is directed by Billy Wilder and stars William Holden as Joe Gillis and Gloria Swanson as Norma Desmond, a silent film star struggling to reclaim her past fame as Hollywood moves on. It won three Academy Awards and is acclaimed as one of the best movies ever made, with continued cultural relevance.
The movie inspired the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical of the same name, which first opened in 1993 and has been a staple of Broadway and British theater since. The latest adaptation, now on Broadway, stars Nicole Scherzinger as Desmond. It’s not the first time the former Pussycat Doll appeared in a Webber musical; she played Grizabella in the 2014 West End adaptation of Cats.
In addition to the Sunset Boulevard’s 4K Blu-ray release, the remastered version will make its return to theaters on Aug 3 and 4. Otherwise, the film is streaming on MGM+, which is available as a Prime Video add-on or standalone subscription, or you can buy or rent it from VOD platforms like Prime Video and others.
