The most Tony-nominated play of all time will head to London’s West End — and then on a National Tour
Your favorite Seventies rock play is headed overseas. Stereophonic will take on London’s West End in May 2025.
The most Tony-nominated play of all time will wrap its stint at New York’s John Golden Theatre on Sunday, after two extensions, a recoup, and 305 performances in the can. They’ll head to London’s Duke of York’s Theatre in May, though no exact date has been announced.
In the fall, the production will venture to the Pacific Northwest, where it will launch in Seattle at the Paramount Theatre. Additional U.S. dates will be revealed in the future.
Playwright David Adjmi, director Daniel Aukin, and ex-Arcade Fire member Will Butler spent 11 years creating Stereophonic, which follows an unnamed band on the cusp of stardom in 1976. Its similarities to Fleetwood Mac — from the rock & roll excess to the internal conflict and romantic tension — resulted in a lawsuit from Ken Caillat, who produced Rumours. (However, Stevie Nicks told us she was unfamiliar with the play).
Stereophonic premiered at New York’s Playwrights Horizons in October 2023, before making its Broadway debut at the Golden Theatre in April of last year. Its original cast featured Sarah Pidgeon as Diana, Will Brill as Reg, Tom Pecinka as Peter, Chris Stack as Simon, and Juliana Canfield as Holly. Last September, Amy Forsyth, Rebecca Naomi Jones, and Benjamin Anthony Anderson took over the roles of Diana, Holly, and Peter.
