The album's release was announced by SNOOP DOGG via a comical teaser video posted on social media where they play on the different meanings of the word “missionary”. In fact, the clip shows two Mormon missionaries about to make an unexpected home visit when a woman in lingerie welcomes them, alluding to the irreverent style of the album.
The combination of DR DRE's creative genius and SNOOP DOGG's incredible flow have always been a guarantee, as demonstrated by their various collaborations including “Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang” included in the revolutionary album “The Chronic”, the Grammy-nominated smash hit “Gin And Juice” (1994) and the iconic “Still DRE” And “The Next Episode”as well as performing during halftime at the 2022 Super Bowl and the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In this sense, “MISSIONARY” represents not only a celebration of their career, but also an evolution in line with the artistic and personal growth of the two hitmakers. “I feel like it's probably the best music I've ever made and I'm very proud of it”, says DR DRE in an interview with COMPLEX. “In MISSIONARY we are at another level of maturity, both production-wise and lyrically-wise.”
