A bolt from the blue shakes the world of Italian music: Paolo Benvegnù, an extraordinarily talented singer-songwriter and guitarist, has suddenly passed away. The news was released by the family through a press release.
“Companion, father, songwriter and musician loved by anyone who was lucky enough to meet him on their path, Paolo Benvegnù passed away today at the age of 59 – reads the press note with which the news was disclosed, without adding further details on the circumstances of his death, which occurred in his home on Lake Garda – Paolo was a man capable of infusing beauty and poetry into everything he did as demonstrated by his long career and the songs he published in recent years”.
Benvegnù, born in Milan but resident for years in Perugia, was experiencing a particularly happy and intense period in his career. Only a few weeks ago, he started the tour celebrating the twentieth anniversary of his famous album “Piccoli fragilissimi film”, revived in a special version enriched by prestigious duets with artists such as Paolo Fresu, Ermal Meta, La Representative di Lista, Dente, Malika Ayane, Tosca, Piero Pelù, Giovanni Truppi, Fast Animals and Slow Kids and Lamante.
To testify to his recent success, this year Benvegnù won the prestigious Targa Tenco in the “Best Album” category with “It's useless to talk about love” and obtained second place in the Best Song category for The oceanan exciting song created in collaboration with Brunori Sas.
Paolo Benvegnù's career, which began in the 90s as a member of Scisma, a symbolic band of the Italian alternative rock scene, continued with a successful solo adventure after the dissolution of the group in 2003.
From the first single “Suggestionabili” to the recent award-winning album, Benvegnù had been able to continuously renew itself, maintaining a strong bond with the public and a unique poetics in the Italian musical panorama.
