“Self -destruction”: interview with Holden

We are on All Music Italia with Holden, welcome back. It was a very intense 2024, between participation in friends, numerous singles, certifications and your first tour in clubs. If I had to take stock of this year, what would you tell us?

I would say it was a super positive year, I had fun and I also learned a lot. It was certainly fundamental for my personal and artistic growth.

What emotion has been dealing with, in fact, a real live experience?

It was certainly a very intense experience and being the first tour it was all a bit a surprise because until you do the first date and you have nothing to really do with the audience and you have it in front of you, you don't know how many tickets you actually sold, how many people come to sing and see, so it was definitely a bet.

It was also a very beautiful moment of my life, I will always remember this tour with a great smile because, in addition to having had a lot of fun, I also learned to live a side of the music that until then was unknown to me. Now I understand why the artists can't wait to go on tour.

To return to the present, your latest single was released on April 18th Self -destruction. Do you want to talk about it better?

It is a piece that explores a little of the emotional states. He certainly talks about self -destruction, but in my opinion he touches many other themes. A phrase that I like very much is “I hate the world except you”, it is a piece that talks about this journey in which everything we see around we don't like, but we must focus on positive things.

It also has a fairly deep meaning if you want, but then it also goes to explore what is the relationship with this person, which is extremely positive. I therefore look for, through a story of a relationship, also to touch a deeper state of themselves

Linked to this, almost all of all we asked ourselves at least once in our life: why do we humans often tend to self -destruct, both towards ourselves but in interpersonal relationships?

I believe there are foundations of psychology in the way a person grows and in the relationship he has with his own thoughts since he is small, they are decisive factors because then everything is based on all this, so surely there is a psychological component that has his decisive role in our growth.

We are very complex beings and this complexity I think it is beautiful, but I also believe that the most important thing is, at a certain point, remain able to analyze and understand when we are attacking to negative thoughts and when we can improve ourselves under that aspect. I believe that the improvement of oneself has no boundaries and sometimes I also think of thinking in this way, but then the balance is restored.

There are two phrases that have particularly struck me and that are “And I would scale the Everest not to say sorry” or “I've always been my worst enemy I never grant even to the slightest mistake”. There are references to so many defects that we have as people: not to apologize, be the first enemies of ourselves and have difficulty for forgiving the mistakes. In your opinion, even from this point of view, why is it so difficult to change perspective and direction?

In my opinion, it is because we are brought, because of other relationships, to conceive to apologize as an admission of guilt, which is then actually, therefore also to consider it as a failure and a negative thing. Instead I believe that security is precisely in knowing how to recognize in reality when you are wrong. I am very good at seeing the mistakes of others, however this must be able to allow me to see mine, otherwise it becomes only a critical judgment towards others and not of themselves.

I am a very curious person, I like to analyze what are the problems and obstacles that do not allow me to get to the goal. Therefore when an interpersonal relationship does not work I work on the reasons and often then one almost always finds ourselves on the same things, that is, on the ability to know how to apologize, on the clarity of thought and communication. When one is able to speak sincerely with himself, he often then manages to speak clearly with his neighbor.

So yes, Self -destruction He focuses on common problems, but for me they become a reason for interest because they are topics that I have experienced firsthand in the relationships that I have had and addresses those themes because they actually are the ones who then always come back to the surface when one wonders about why something has not worked.

It is very beautiful and interesting that a young boy like you managed to do all these mature reflections. How did you get to these awareness?

It seems stupid, but I like to think so much. Sometimes, however, it is also something on which I don't have too much control. Already the brain if left free runs and no longer stops … but this thing really likes me. Do not dwell on the issues and leave them hanging can weigh us, but I also like this heaviness of thought because it allows me to better understand things. To answer, I think it is due to this, from asking many questions and looking for the answers.

Let's move now on the most musical part. As in almost all your songs, also in Self -destruction You are both author and producer. Is there a motivation for which you continue to produce and write things alone?

In reality, the main motivation is the fact that I like to do it, then sometimes a piece comes out that I like so much that it is out or to finish it. Then in reality they are absolutely not against artistic collaboration, also because more minds together, if they speak the same language, they can say interesting things.

Indeed, collaborating soon is something that I hope is because it is also fun – and surely the fun component in an artistic sphere like this cannot be missing – and then above all because it is something that allows you to interface with a different critical thinking and a way to grow. I hope to do it one day, then the reasons why in this case I did not do it is because the piece came out on my own in a very short time and therefore I have not felt the need.

At this point I ask you, if I ever collaborated with a producer, author or singer, the first names that come to your mind would be? Also of your dreams

I don't tell you because I don't want to spoil it. There are many artists and producers with whom I would like to collaborate, but I don't make the specific names because my dreams remain in the drawer anyway. We are really full of talents, there are a lot of people I would like to work with, especially for producers. I really like Mace, but there are really many, we are surrounded by good producers with whom one day it would be nice to collaborate.

To conclude I ask you what we must expect for the future on a musical level or if it is still too early to talk about it. What do you want and can you tell us?

It is still early to talk about it, but surely you can expect a lot of music, a lot of commitment and a few Tiktok (laughs, ed.). However, I expect to make a second tour and therefore to see the fanbase soon, of which I am very happy, it also gives me the charge in the creative phase of writing precisely because the first live experience I had also allowed me to imagine the response of the public and therefore to work with different parameters and with an extra experience. I expect a second very fun and very intense tour.

I throw a sassolino but are you free not to answer: new tour is equivalent to new project?

Yes, absolutely.
