The comedy spinoff premieres Oct. 29 on Disney Channel, and the next day on Disney+
In the new trailer for Disney spin-off Wizards Beyond Waverly Placeeverything is not what it seems. Selena Gomez and David Henrie return to their wizard roots in the new clip, where an adult Alex Russo (Gomez) introduces an adult Justin Russo (Henrie) to Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown), a “rebellious and stubborn” wizard, as Alex puts it, in need of training. After Alex sways her brother to return to spell casting, he also juggles his docile, mortal lifestyle with his family.
“I know all this wizard stuff can be a lot, but I promise nothing is going to change,” Henrie says in the trailer.
The spinoff follows the highly popular Disney Channel series Wizards of Waverly Place, which ran from 2007 to 2012 and racked up two Emmys in the children's program category. Gomez's breakout role di lei as Alex Russo catapulted her career di lei, leading Gomez to star in Disney Channel movies including Another Cinderella Story, Princess Protection Programand Ramona and Beezus. News of the spinoff broke in January, as Deadline reported, with Gomez announcing the sequel in May at Disney's Upfront, an event that showcases the brand's upcoming projects. Other cast members include Taylor Cora (American Gangster: Trap Queens), Alkaio Thiele (Call Me Kat), Max Matenko (Platonic), and Mimi Gianopulos (American Princess).
Gomez earned her first Emmy nod as a lead actress in a comedy series for her role in Only Murders in the Building. Earlier this month, the comedy series was renewed for a fifth season.
