“Fire/Desire” instead adds an energetic and fluctuating touch, with pulsating synths with an attitude trance and a rhythm that emerges and dissolves. “Pressure” is another example of how the trio knows how to blend consolidated elements with a well-defined personality, following a buildup progressive in volume and intensity: the high notes follow one another gradually, the rhythm becomes increasingly tighter, but the band knows how to channel clichés into an enthralling piece full of character.
Rüfüs Du Sol are no strangers to big scenes: during the pandemic, the trio earned millions of views with a live show filmed without an audience in California's Joshua Tree park, which brought their music to an ever-wider audience – currently very close to ten million monthly listeners on Spotify. With the new chapter “Inhalte/Exhale”, Rüfüs Du Sol move confidently along well-known paths, managing to combine class and immediacy.
Those looking for innovation and impulses in unexpected directions might find it an all too safe listen, but the album knows how to give space to its own identity even without straying too far from known territories. A cohesive work, which focuses on enthralling atmospheres and undeniable mastery in the field prog house to create direct, solid and enveloping tracks.
