The Röyksopp you don't expect. The Norwegian band has surprisingly released a new ambient album, entitled “Nebulous Nights – An Ambient Excursion Into Profound Mysteries”. It is an environmental reinterpretation of the project “Profound Mysteries” by the electronic duo of Tromso. Recorded live, the album features many sonic references to the electronic duo's previous catalogue.
“In addition to the pure pleasure of listening, 'Nebulous Nights' wants to underline the importance of critical thinking and intellectual curiosity – Röyksopp write in the presentation note – It aims to promote a mental attitude that favors exploration and personal growth, without limiting imagination and research to a single vision of the world or a single scheme. This concept is well summarized by a quote from Albert Einstein: 'The most beautiful thing we can experience is mystery art and science. Anyone who is a stranger to this emotion and no longer knows how to stop and marvel and be ecstatic is as if he were dead;
Originating from TromsoArctic Circle, like their colleagues Bel Canto and Biosphere, Royksopp exploded with their debut album, “Melody AM”: a mix of transversal and manipulated sounds, balanced between sinuous dance rhythms, persuasive atmospheres lounge music and electronic funk. After a follow-up of the highest level (“The Understanding” of 2005), their career continued between happy synth-pop intuitions, successful collaborations, such as the one with the Swedish Robyn, and some empty passages (“Senior” of 2010). If it was thought that 2014's “The Inevitable End” marked – as the title suggests – their farewell, the double date with the “Profound Mysteries” project arrived in 2022 to reassure fans about the continuation of the Norwegian duo's career.
