Redveil was among the performers at Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival music festival over the weekend, and his set livestreamed via Prime Video. Wearing a keffiyeh as his DJ raised the flag of Palestine, he spoke to the crowd while the names of people recently killed in Gaza scrolled on the screen behind him. He later shared the below video of the moment, which he titled the “most important part” of his set. “Nobody on this fuckin’ list made it to the age of four,” he said. “Not one.”
“I know if you’re fuckin’ human, you’re gonna feel somebody saying this shit,” he continued. “It’s not complicated, don’t let nobody tell you that shit.” The screen behind him displayed the URL for Ceasefire Today, which offers prompts to contact Congress, sign petitions, and find protests. “Call your reps, demand a cease-fire,” he said. “If you don’t have service, take a picture, write it the fuck down, alright?” He then led the crowd in a chant of “free Palestine.” Watch it happen below.
Redveil’s message at the festival comes in the wake of mounting protests across the world calling for a cease-fire. The two largest hospitals in Gaza are no longer functioning after being under siege by Israeli forces. Israel officials have claimed that Hamas has a base below the hospital, but has not yet released evidence to support that assertion. President Joe Biden has called for the hospitals to be protected. Rep. Cori Bush was joined by other House Democrats in submitting a resolution calling for a cease-fire last month. Congressional staffers recently protested Congress’ lack of action with a public vigil, noting the outpour of demands for a cease-fire from constituents.
