Rashida Jones paid tribute to her late father, Quincy Jones, calling him a “cultural innovator.” In a post on Instagram, the first since her death on Sunday at the age of 91, the actress shared some memories of her childhood, spent alongside what she defined as “an icon”.
«My father was a night owl his whole life. He has followed the “rhythms of jazz” since high school and has never looked back. As a child I woke up in the middle of the night to look for him, and I always found him in some corner of the house, intent on composing (the old fashioned way, with pen and sheet music). He never sent me to bed. He smiled at me and took me in his arms while he continued working… for me there was no safer place in the world.”
Rashida described her father as a giant and a genius, but above all as a «channel of love. He WAS love.”
He continues: «He made everyone he met feel loved and cared for. This is his legacy. I have been lucky enough to experience this love up close. I will miss his hugs and kisses, his unconditional devotion and his advice. Dad, it's an honor to be your daughter. Your love will live forever.” This closes the message.
Quincy Jones, legendary music producer, died on November 3 at his home in Los Angeles. Before her daughter, several stars and colleagues who had worked with Jones shared messages of affection, esteem and condolences for her passing.
