After giving a small taste of it during the two live shows in Bologna and Turin last September, Giovanni Toscano presents the new single Little Tornador (LaTarma Records; distributed by ADA Music Italy): a delicate and almost intimate song, produced by Rootsieswhich reflects a deep melancholy, but also a growing awareness about love, life and personal choices.
“Little Tornado is the story of my summer. A summer spent on a desert island, lost in the Mediterranean, where everyone is naked and sleeps wherever they please. Where no one knows what others do. We spent our time looking for shade like cats, without thinking we had to do something for our future.”
And if the desire to go back to recover everything that one was forced to leave behind is very strong, so is the awareness that everyday life is also made up of sacrifices. And here the song turns into a I invite you not to fear life's challengeswith all its vertigo, because only those who have the courage to throw themselves and love can truly find their star.
“LITTLE TORNADO”, INTERVIEW WITH GIOVANNI TOSCANO
Hi Giovanni, welcome to All Music Italia. How are you?
Good enough. In fact, I would almost say very well.
Little Tornado is the title of your new single and it is the story of your summer, spent on a desert island in the Mediterranean. What was the drop that then made the ink overflow onto the white sheet?
The disappointment that something extremely beautiful and important had already ended and the desire to relive it after some time in my bedroom.
What new awareness has this journey given you? Is there something about yourself that you discovered on this occasion?
I've discovered that I love sleeping under the stars, that I can stay quiet for longer than I thought, that this isn't a bad thing, and that even without a job that defines me, I'm no less worth it. Now I'm here, I sleep under a roof (luckily), I talk a lot and I try to do my best with this new musical project.
Returning to the title of this song, what did the image of the tornado bring to mind?
The fact of having experienced something shocking, but not big enough to be definitive.
Has there ever been a tornado in your life that wiped out everything?
Yes, when I discovered that I liked making up stories and writing them.
This song is full of nostalgia and melancholy. Is there something that made you feel particularly good on the island and that you were able to bring into your daily life?
I would not know. I think it was taking my time, walking around alone often and seeing what happens.
Little Tornado ends with a sort of mantra: “It takes courage to love, it takes courage to truly live and not hide behind work“. Can you tell us about it in a little more detail?
We often talk about it with some of my friends. In this historical moment I feel that we are so afraid of emptiness, of boredom, of sadness, and we have a thousand ways, small and large, to avoid these sensations. One of these is working, because it makes us feel alive, on track, and gives us value. Often, however, it ends up acting as a screen for us. Emptiness is important. I, for example, discovered writing in a summer of emptiness.
Is there a message you would like to reach loud and clear to those who listen and/or will listen to this song?
Reconsider the role of adventure in our lives.
Listening Little TornadoLucio Dalla immediately came to mind. Which artists have represented and still represent a point of reference for you?
Eh… Definitely From the, Baptistsall of them. I like a bit of everything, soundtracks…
After a tornado, everything has to be rebuilt. What's cooking right now? Little Tornado do you anticipate a new album?
Yes, the second album is coming soon. Then I will dedicate myself to cinema and many other projects.
John, thank you for your time. Good music and good luck with everything!
Thanks to you!
