Perry Farrell has apologized to his bandmates, fans and family after an onstage altercation with Dave Navarro prompted Jane's Addiction to cancel the remainder of their reunion tour.
“This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having had the time and space to reflect, it is only right that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, the fans, and my family and friends for my actions during Friday’s show,” Farrell said in a statement.
“Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behavior and I take full responsibility for how I chose to handle the situation,” he added.
Farrell's statement came a couple of hours after Jane's Addiction announced it was canceling the remainder of its tour. The band's official statement was accompanied by a separate statement from Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins and bassist Eric Avery, who said the tour was canceled “due to the ongoing behavior and mental health issues of our lead singer Perry Farrell.”
The three continued: “Our concern for his personal health and safety, as well as our own, has left us no alternative. We hope he finds the help he needs… We cannot see any solution that will ensure a safe environment on stage or that will allow us to reliably deliver a great performance every night.”
The core Jane's Addiction lineup kicked off their first tour together in 14 years last month. Tensions were reportedly fueled by Farrell's lengthy banter with the crowd that seemed to annoy Navarro. It all came to a head last Friday in Boston, when Farrell yelled at Navarro during Mountain Song and the couple continued to argue during Three Days.
Then, during Ocean SizeFarrell became agitated, approached Navarro and shoulder-bumped him, then continued to yell at Navarro and finally punched him in the shoulder. Farrell was held back by several crew members as he tried to lunge at Navarro again. Eventually, he was carried off stage.
