Snowy, Despite You: meaning of the lyrics of the new single
Available on all major streaming and download platforms from Friday 6 September, Despite You (ADA / Warner Music Italy) is the new single by Snowy.
Produced by hey …the song – which will also be accompanied by a video clip, to be released on the artist's YouTube channel after a preview on Askanews – is oriented towards the future and sees the young singer-songwriter laying himself bare after having understood that, in order to leave behind the wounds and the feeling of discomfort that one experiences in certain situations with other people, one must learn to always choose oneself.
NIVEO, “NONOSTANTE TE”: MEANING OF THE SONG
Below is a small extract from a letter, available in full on Vanity Fair at the following link, where Snowy she tells her story openly between loneliness and bullying, addressing those who are still fighting their own battle against bullying and reminding them of the importance of asking for help.
“Those who are bullied often talk about it when everything is now a distant memory. I have chosen to share my wounds with you, even though they are still open and alive. Fear, a sense of humiliation and shame prevent us from asking for help and indulge that feeling of strength that makes those on the other side feel invincible.
As a teenager, excessive sensitivity probably made me the perfect individual to bully. As I grew older, I became aware of the wickedness that surrounds us and that which I have suffered, but only recently have I gained the clarity that makes me say today that no one should ever feel offended by certain words.
To this day, Marco carries with him a constant sense of inadequacy, he struggles to feel completely at ease when he interacts with his peers, he lives with the constant feeling that someone could make fun of him at any moment and he knows very well that, to fight the aftermath of the bullying he suffered, he will have to choose himself above all else. Sometimes it is not easy, but it will become so. Despite everything“.
For the new single and for its deep and painful story of bullying, Snowy obtained free patronage from the National Center Against Bullying – Bulli Stopwith whom he will probably start a collaboration soon.
Bullies Stop helps victims of bullying and cyberbullying and, for anyone who needs it, can be easily contacted at the following email address info@bullistop.com or by visiting the website www.bullistop.com.
NIVEO, “NONOSTANTE TE”: SONG LYRICS
Text: Marco Fasano, Massimiliano Longo
Music: Marco Fasano, Francesco Perrelli, Daniele Morganti, Matteo Di Nunzio
I was an only boy
That felt like a mistake
Not just any boy
Who felt like a hero
I was obsessed with other people's details
To avoid looking at my white hair and tired eyes
It's no longer enough for me to sing softly
Without giving weight to words
I wrote about my scratches in a diary
Songs too heavy for the radio
And even if I have two wings mounted backwards
I don't feel weird
Despite all those lost nights
Caught between people's judgments
I just want to stay with open arms
Where the darkness doesn't take me
Despite all the wrong notes
The ones you never let me sing
I want to turn off the silence and imagine
That despite you, despite you I choose myself
We are under the same cloud if it rains
Confused but happy as a sunflower
But learn to look at yourself
Before you lock yourself up
In a pair of eyes
I wrote about my scratches in a diary
Songs too heavy for the radio
And even if I have two wings mounted backwards
I don't feel weird
Despite all those lost nights
Caught between people's judgments
I just want to stay with open arms
Where the darkness doesn't take me
Despite all the wrong notes
The ones you never let me sing
I want to turn off the silence and imagine
That despite you, despite you I choose myself
Despite the poorly written messages
Promises and tattoos to be redone
Even though I'm not that special
I choose myself
Despite all those lost nights
Caught between people's judgments
I just want to stay with open arms
Where the darkness doesn't take me
Despite all the wrong notes
The ones you never let me sing
I want to turn off the silence and imagine
That despite you, despite you I choose myself
(Even though you're not that special, no no
Your words hurt
And despite you, Despite you
I choose myself)
