Second work for one of the most particular musical projects that emerged in the last few years in Italian territory, or those Nekomata born from the ashes of the so -called Project Kasha, by the will of the former guitarist of the Power Metaller Skeletoon, Andrea Cappellari, and the former bassist of the Frozen Crown , Filippo Zavattari.
Their debut had made us go up the antennas at the exit due to a rather evident research of originality, to be found in their particular musical mixture, where they find place metal, metalcore and contemporary metalcore place, with very evident mentions too to successful realities such as Trivium, Periphery and Architects; mixes that earned him the wording of 'powercore' band.
The sound is in fact current like few others, with various alternations of breakdown, accelerations and outbursts in double cassins typical of the power, while there are always massive and saturated guitarroni, as well as a vocal sector that modulates between a very modern growl and phases are always and in any case Clean from the strong pop connotations, by the frontman Andrea Olivieri. All this without forgetting the electronic inserts and shades that would not break into some production of Japanese origin, not only of a musical mold: in fact, the mentions in the videogame world already present in the predecessor is inevitable – we cannot in fact not mention the “automated” one that brings us back to mind the famous and disturbing title of action developed by Yoko Taro.
Listening in itself is quite short, with songs that never exceed five minutes of duration, in the most full -bodied cases, and we are pleased to note that the main defect of the previous work has been partly mitigated. In that case there was in fact a decidedly too palpable redundancy between one song and the other, with situations even too similar between them; While in this case – although we cannot properly speak of a product that makes stylistic and structural lashing its strength, indeed – we note that a greater cure has been placed in giving a more marked identity to extracts, with results indeed Rather convincing.
However, we must note that, in some specific songs, the bite tendent a little descended: for example, the longest of the package, that is, “zero”, is perhaps a little too redundant, with cadenced and repeated solutions in a piece that It could also have lasted something less, without giving the feeling of unfinished.
Fortunately, they think about it as the initial “Shattered”, the most unraveling “in My Flesh” and “Feedback”, or the coupled composed of “de priapi dilemma” and “Road to Ruin” to keep the bar high; The latter, in particular, surprised us because of his tendentially melodic and calm incede, which then beats on the accelerator brutally in the last moments.
The texts and themes treated are also very valid, which make a skilful use of metaphors and Nerd -character references to describe real problems, often encountered within a certain type of contemporaneity: in fact, just to read the titles to note analogies with analogies with Perhaps issues concerning current social problems, with debates that are born and developed in a very focused communication on social media.
Even the ending with the brutal, albeit catchy, “super omnia” and with the final and accelerated “Ataraxia – Still Abused” works rather well, allowing us to affirm that, apparently, the Nekomata seems to be really finding their own musical square, Regardless of the fact that it is undoubtedly a transversal reality and not easy to frame.
Our wish is obviously that the desired results can come, as well as the deserved satisfactions.
