«I am honored to offer one year of free access to neilyoungarchives.com to all friends of Greenland. I hope that my music and musical films can relieve some of the stress and unwarranted threats you are experiencing due to our unpopular and, I hope, temporary government.”
Thus begins the message with which Neil Young announces that the inhabitants of Greenland will have free access to his archive which can be subscribed to at prices ranging from 24.99 to 99.99 dollars per year (to have access you need a phone with a number with the Greenland area code).
«My sincere wish is that you can enjoy all my music in your beautiful home in Greenland, in the highest possible quality. It is an offering of peace and love. You can listen to all the music I've made over the last 62 years. And you can renew your pairing for free as long as you are in Greenland. I hope other organizations will follow our example.”
In another message, Young renewed his call to boycott Amazon as it is owned by Jeff Bezos, “a billionaire who supports the president” and therefore his foreign policy and the actions of ICE. «If you think like me, I strongly advise you not to use Amazon. There are many ways to avoid Amazon and support American citizens and companies that provide the same products. I did it with my music, and those who look for it can find it in many other places.”
«My music will never be available on Amazon as long as Bezos owns it. Unfortunately my position has a negative impact on the record label in the short term, but I think the message I'm sending is important and clear. Thanks to those who buy music from local shops and independent digital services.”
Currently Neil Young's records, including the recent version of Tonight's the Night for the 50th anniversary, they are on sale on Amazon.com, but are not present on the Amazon Music streaming service.
