The Dutch Nachtheem are a new black metal project wrapped in almost complete darkness, which reaches its debut on Ván after some minor releases scattered during the year 2024: a demo, a single and a split.
“Nacht, Zij met ons …” is a partially new product, given that it is the remastered version of the aforementioned first demo. In essence we are talking about a primordial black metal disc consisting of four tracks, for a total of almost forty minutes, which moves in rather narrow spaces, presenting us in a very dry way an atmospheric raw black metal as the first ulver, certain ennslaved, the Paysage d'Hiver or the non -militant black metal school of the Wiegedoodod could have done.
This obviously concerns the most black metal parts that are repeated, insistent and dark: the first “drift van nostalgie” is very clear in its intentions. The interpretation that our damage to the most black genre of all is obviously linked to deep reverberations, to a deliberately sparse but not incomprehensible production; Yet, at the same time, it is also clear to us how the project is part of the new generation bands that somehow want to appropriate a shape and push it forward and not stop to clone a sound.
The second song-the title-track-is the confirmation, with a first fierce part in line with the previous one (the choirs that remind us of the aforementioned Enslaved and Ulver) and a sudden central break to introduce a Dark Ambient part. In turn, the synths are suddenly transformed into a third and final movement, supported by a Mid-Tempo of the Burzum mold. The third “De Oude Dennen” is another ambient piece – this time completely, for over eight minutes – that balances between the most rarefied darkness and suggestions, not so far from the Darkspace.
The final “Daar Aan Het Firmament” starts again with the ambient, even if this time, however, rade guitar notes, percussion and voice that move the needle of the compass to more ritualistic aspects emerge; After a few minutes, however, in the piece the most classic black metal returns, which accompanies us to the end with a sustained fast time, in what is the most complete and significant composition of the lot for us.
“Nacht, Zij Met ONS …” is an overall a black metal disc is classic – in the conception and in the overall sound – and modern – the mix with the ambient taken from many 'new levers' – in his proposing himself as rough, melodic and at the same atmospheric.
In conclusion, high thumb for this debut, even if the (il?) Mysterious Nachtheem, however, for now they cannot completely detach themselves from a style already proposed by many others. To emerge something more, and this time we do not mean the clearly low basic information on the band.
