“Subderma 7 of 9 (Scream)” is the seventh track on the album “Subdermis” of the project MRS Carril. The piece, which interacts with a choice of paintings and sculptures by Claudio Magrassiwhich will give life to the “Subderma” exhibition and its catalogue, was created (like the other eight parts that complete the album of the same name) starting from an improvisation, in this case on the clarinet, by Guido Battaiola who, in front of the works of art, expressed their emotions and sensations extemporaneously.
At a later time MRS Carril he added the other instruments in an electroacoustic texture trying to dialogue and enrich. It is hard music, just as Claudio's art often is, which almost always arises from a battle between the artist and the work itself. And when there is battle there are in the work the signs of the conflict, the wounds, the mutilations, the adaptations necessary to be born and survive. The music of Subdermis try to accompany the battle by bringing with you the firm intention of generating depth and the desire to explore.
Andrea Saidu he is a singer-songwriter born and lived in the Piedmont province. Born in 1980, like many enthusiasts, he started playing in a band early and never stopped. At university he discovered a passion for radio and the world of audio and, for 20 years, made it an all-encompassing profession; Now he's a dad, and he's chosen a job that makes him come back much earlier in the evening. A hungry and curious listener, he hardly remembers names and titles, plays several instruments but does not define himself as a virtuoso of any. He likes cooking much more, both food and music, without following recipes too much, following suggestions that are almost always clear from the start. Having said that, black music and Italian songwriting are his main influences and, inevitably, they can be found in his way of writing: first he did it alone, now together with Marco.
Music has always represented for Marco Gilardone a fixed point, a passion, a consolation. However, he never made it a profession. For years he has worked as a doctor, specialist in Phoniatrics, and as a manager in the private healthcare sector. He taught the Masters in Artistic Vocology at the University of Bologna and Entertainment Disciplines at the University of Milan. He has been involved in research and scientific dissemination and has published, if he hasn't lost count, thirteen volumes. Undoubtedly the main orientation on the musical level has been and is that of operatic musical theater (he has been a record critic for many years for the monthly magazine “L'opera” and currently collaborates with the online magazine Connessi all'Opera), symphonic music and Afro-American music (Jazz). He has also always appreciated fine pop music, and has played keyboards in this field in various semi-professional bands. For some time now he has also enjoyed writing songs.
Together they are MRS Carril.
Mrs. Carril has many faces or rather many passions… she likes to write songs but also greatly appreciates figurative art, and she can't help but imagine notes when she finds herself in front of a painting that captivates her. The zero episode of this instrumental offshoot of their production company is entitled “Denial”. Andrea and Marco had the honor of providing sound for the exhibition Denial. Denying yourself is a Positive act by Andrea Franzosi.
The new work in this series, and the fifth in the MC Music catalogue, will be released on 8 November: it will be titled “Subdermis” and will accompany, starting from the same date, anyone who will have the pleasure and fortune of visiting Claudio Magrassi's personal exhibition at the foyer of the Civic Theater of Tortona. The video comes as a preview Subderma 7 of 9 (Scream) which, in short, will try to make you experience the suggestions of the exhibition, inviting you to continue the experience!
This album would not have been possible without the fundamental contribution of Guido Battaiola. Saxophonist by chance… in 1974 he chose to start studying a wind instrument, but which one? He has the sound of the trumpet and the transverse flute in his head but the music teacher, as well as impresario and barber, says: “Why don't you play the sax?” And so he began a course of study on an instrument, the tenor sax, of which he was unaware of the existence and, above all, which, both student and teacher, they did not know how to play! The absurd turns into an extremely educational opportunity that allows him to build a personal language. Having approached jazz thanks to a program on Rai 2 which broadcast concerts at 1.30pm, he began studying the clarinet with another teacher. This time the path is classic and ends up taking the Conservatory exams useful for obtaining the fifth degree in instrument and harmony. But the passion for jazz increases, so no more exams at the conservatory, without regrets and having acquired a very important background he approaches the alto, baritone and soprano sax trying to understand their peculiarities. In the meantime he spices up his training by participating in various musical projects of various genres: dance music, pop, rock, fusion, folk, hard rock and, with personal satisfaction, jazz! He is currently involved in a jazz duo with classical guitar, in a pop trio with female vocals, in a folk singer-songwriter formation, in another jazz quartet and in a band that offers unreleased songs… in short: playing, playing, playing!
