MORRISSEYone of the most beloved and influential artists of all time, today announces the imminent release of his fourteenth solo album, MAKE-UP IS A LIEscheduled for March 6, with the immediate release of the single of the same name, “Make-Up Is a Lie”, now available on label Sire/Warner Records. The new song, exciting and dynamic from a sound point of view, arrives together with the much talked about tracklist of the long-awaited project: the new album by MORRISSEY in over five years it also marks his welcome return to Sire Records.
The latest news and new music comes as the iconic English singer and songwriter continues his world tour, which has already hit the US, Canada, the UK and Europe. The next part of the tour will resume in January, with a date in Italy on March 9th at the Fabrique in Milan.
MAKE-UP IS A LIE brings together MORRISSEY with the manufacturer Joe Chiccarelli (The Strokes, The White Stripes, Weezer, My Morning Jacket) and it is the return to Studio La Fabrique in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, in the south of France. With poetic and provocative lyrics, evocative and unpredictable instrumentations and a title that can be read as an explicit invitation to truth and naked expression, the 12 songs on the album are destined to further consolidate the status of MORRISSEY as one of the most acclaimed and powerful voices of the last four decades.
The album's first single is a heady introduction. Written in collaboration with the keyboard player of MORRISSEY Camila Grey,”Make-Up Is a Lie” builds on a trip-hop-like groove – echoing drums, propulsive bass riffs and a mysterious atmosphere – that explodes into swirling dream-pop in the chorus. MORRISSEY floats through the song, weaving the curious story of a woman who continues to desperately try to deliver a message to him, even after death:

In MAKE-UP IS A LIE MORRISSEY he is joined by a familiar group of characters and bandmates, including Jesse Tobias, Camila Grey, Carmen Vandenberg, Juan Galeano, Alain Whyte, Gustavo Manzur and Brendan Buckley. The tracklist includes some songs previously mentioned by Morrissey and others never revealed, as well as a faithful cover of “Amazon”, a little-known song by Roxy Music from 1973.
MAKE-UP IS A LIE will be available in physical and digital formats. In physical form, in addition to the CD, the vinyl format will have three color variants: blue, red and an exclusive Zoetrope picture disc.
