In an Instagram post, Morrissey revealed that a Smiths reunion came close. He didn't blow it up.
It happened two months ago. Even though it is on his official account, the post is written in the third person: «In June 2024, AEG Entertainment Group (a global sports and entertainment giant second only to Live Nation, ed.) offered both Morrissey and Marr to tour in 2025 as The Smiths. Morrissey said yes; Marr ignored the offer.”
The final thrust: “Morrissey will be doing a largely sold-out tour of the United States in November. Marr continues to tour as a special guest of New Order.”
Marr has not yet commented, confirmed or denied. Three days ago, after the Oasis reunion, an X user who suggested a Smiths reunion was being addressed by the guitarist, posting a photo of Nigel Farage holding a beer.
