The synergic relationship with similar artists has often played a decisive role in the prolific and eclectic musical production of Matteo Uggeri. Whether it is shared projects (Sparkle In Grey, Open To The Sea, Starlight Assembly), sporadic collaborations (among others Nocturnal Emissions, Deison, Bob Corn, Giulio Aldinucci), alter ego (Barnacles) or released under their own name, the contribution of the musicians involved has always injected fundamental contributions expertly absorbed to combine with a completely personal perception of sound.
The new piece in his own name developed for Stefano Gentile's label, while not renouncing this attitude, presents an unprecedented declination. The starting material, in fact, is always the performance of others and specifically it is about piano phrases extrapolated from pieces, short works and interpretations of friends – all kept strictly anonymous – sampled and treated in real time without distorting the timbre with the sole aid of the laptop. Putting in loop short sequences, dirtying their reiteration with bland effects, phase shifts and reverberations, the sound artist Milanese draws dreamlike resonant environments, inclined to pursue that fairy-tale aura similar to the imagery shared with Enrico Coniglio and, recently, also with Saverio Rosi under the acronym Open To The Sea.
The melodic nuclei impose themselves thanks to their circular development, they fix themselves and are affected by the digital intervention to then crumble and regain purity in a hypnotic motion in which everything gradually changes to return to the starting point. Net of the specificities, each trait belongs to an inseparable whole, oriented to structure an intimate itinerary suggested by listening to the sources, a musical journey conceived as a personal reflection on the flow of life and the importance of affections, a theme previously addressed in “The Next Wait” (2019, Infraction) and “My Happiest Consumption” (2023, Midira).
