Robert Del Naja revealed to NME that Massive Attack refused to play Coachella 2025. The reason? Concerns about the environmental impact of the festival.
The chat took place at Massive Attack's “Act 1.5″ Festival in Liverpool, a follow-up event to their August concert in Bristol which aimed to be something revolutionary in terms of the new environmental sustainability standards of live concerts. With its desert setting, Coachella doesn't have the same goals: «We said no to Coachella next year because we've already been there once and that's it. It's in Palm Springs. It's a resort built in a desert, powered by an irrigation system that uses public water. Crazy. If you want to see something that is the most absurd human behavior, go there.”
The musician also spoke about artists who hold residencies in Las Vegas, a “flying destination” in the desert. There's also something for the new The Sphere: «A brilliant infrastructure in the worst possible place, in the worst context in the world».
