Martin Short earned his Saturday Night Live Five-Timers Club jacket, joined on stage by several other past recipients, including Alec Baldwin, John Mulaney and Emma Stone.
First on screen during the cold open were Tom Hanks and Paul Rudd, who introduced Short.
“What a surprise that I've known about all week!” he joked.
Short, who last appeared on SNL in April when Kristen Wiig received her jacket, she was soon congratulated by Wiig herself, along with Tina Fey, Baldwin and Scarlett Johansson. Wiig commented on how the event could double as an Only Murders in the Building reunion.
“Well, it is true,” Short replied. “Tina and Paul were both guest stars. And isn't it embarrassing when shows throw in big name cameos just for cheap ratings boosts?”
“It's the worst!” Stone and Melissa McCarthy said in unison.
After McCarthy, who said “sophomoric comedic stuff” wouldn't be appropriate, fell backwards through a wall, John Mulaney entered through the hole in time for a toast.
His request for something non-alcoholic spurred Fey to quip, “Do you mean drinks or people? Because either way, no.”
Moments later, Short, whose most recent SNL hosting gig was in December 2022 alongside Only Murders in the Building co-star Steve Martin, received his jacket from a self-deprecating Jimmy Fallon.
“I can only stay for a little bit,” he said, “and then I have to go and host another game show and laugh at my own jokes.”
The Tonight Show host continued: “Marty, I just want to say I'm so happy to be here for this moment. So, I would like to present to you the official Five-Timers Club jacket in exactly your size: a women's small.”
