“Unreleased song I felt like sharing on this day,” the singer said of the piano ballad
Maren Morris has shared a snippet of a new song, with fitting lyrics following Donald Trump‘s victory in the 2024 presidential election.
“Unreleased song I felt like sharing on this day,” she wrote on her Instagram story. On it, she sings over a delicate piano, “Feels like the worst year’s always the one you’re in/Haven’t heard a ‘hallelujah’ but I ain’t been listenin.’”
Morris joins countless celebrities who have expressed extreme disappointment over the election, including Jack White (“Americans chose a known, obvious fascist”), Billie Eilish (“It’s a war on women”), Cardi B (“I hate y’all bad”), and more.
Morris’ unreleased track follows “People Still Show Up,” which she dropped late last month. “To be frank, with everything going on right now, l just wanted to put out something vibey and fun,” she said upon its release. “I know it’s an election year and the energy around it can feel extremely dense, but please SHOW UP for yourself and your family (born or chosen) and vote.
Earlier this summer, Morris released the EP Intermission (her last full-length album was 2022’s Humble Quest). She’s currently on tour, hitting dual shows in Raleigh, North Carolina on Nov. 11 and 12, and a stop in Orlando, FL on Nov. 18.
