Luke Hemmings arrived in Italy for an unmissable event yesterday 6 May at the Fabrique in Milan. The multi-platinum superstar has arrived in our country with a Milanese date which will be part of the Nostalgia For A Time That Never Existed tour. His highly anticipated solo EP, boy, is released on April 26, 2024. Ahead of the EP, the award-winning musician has shared the beautifully melancholic first single, “Shakes.”
boy's announcement marks the 5 Seconds of Summer frontman's first new solo music since the release of his critically acclaimed debut project When Facing the Things We Turn Away From (2021). Inspired by bands like LCD Soundsystem and the Cocteau Twins, when Hemmings began writing his new EP, he was looking for something specific. In a session with writing partner Sammy Witte, they called it “the pain.” “It's hard to put into words,” explains Luke. “I just know there's a feeling I get; there is a pain. It seems like this is the feeling I find.”
Luke is skilled at capturing feelings and distilling them into music. As the lead singer of 5 Seconds of Summer, Luke has sold millions of records, toured extensively around the world, amassed billions of streams and become one of Australia's most successful artists. boy, meanwhile, sees him harness his innate abilities as a songwriter to carve out a unique space for himself as an artist in his own right.
