Is love truly blind? Netflix has renewed the dating series Love Is Blind for Season Six and Season Seven, with Season Six slated for Feb. 14 as Charlotte, North Carolina singles give masked love a shot.
During Love Is Blind Season Five, one unlikely couple, Lydia and Milton, said “I do,” while the other couples went their separate ways — either at the altar or during a pre-wedding romantic getaway. Each season of the unconventional dating show has ranked in Netflix’s Top 10, with Season Five spending five weeks on the global Top 10 list for English-language shows.
During the series, singles spend long hours communicating through “pods,” with the hope to get engaged and find love, not based on looks. After the reveal, the newly engaged couples set off on a honeymoon, move in with each other, pick out wedding attire, and must determine if love is truly blind.
In Season Five, one contestant, Tran Dang, filed a lawsuit that she was sexually assaulted by former fiancé Thomas Smith during their Mexico vacation, People reported.
In its fourth season, though, some former cast members told Insider that the series lacked food and water but had a surplus of alcohol. In the report, cast members alleged they were required to film up to 20 hours each day within a 10-day filming schedule, leaving them desperate for sleep. Cast members also said they were discouraged from leaving the show, and were required to pay a $50,000 fine if they left the experiment “without producer approval.”
The show’s production company Kinetic Content told Rolling Stone in a statement at the time, “We have rigorous protocols in place to care for each person before, during, and after filming.”
