Saint Etienne have announced the release of their new album, “The Night”. The album will be released on December 12th on Heavenly Recordings, just over three years after their tenth LP, “I've Been Trying To Tell You”.
Sarah Cracknell, Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs made the album with composer and producer Augustin Bousfield in the first half of 2024.
“It was great to find ourselves all together again in the same studio as Gus in Bradford, we realized it had been several years since we last did this, sprawled on the carpet, with cups of coffee in hand, sheets of lyrics and half-ideas for the titles that surrounded us,” says Pete Wiggs “We wanted to continue with the mellow, spacey atmosphere of the last album, maybe even double it, but it's a very different album, not based on songs, atmospheres and spoken pieces come in and out while it's pouring rain outside. It's the kind of record I like to listen to in the dark or with my eyes closed.”
To anticipate the release of the new Sain Etienne album, the single “Half Light”, the video of which you can see below.
“'Half Light' – explains Wiggs – is about the edge of the night, the last rays of the sun flickering through tree branches, communing with nature and seeing things that may not be there.”
Saint Etienne is a British indie pop and dance band, formed in London in 1990. Made up of members Bob Stanley, Pete Wiggs and Sarah Cracknell, the group is known for its eclectic style, which mixes elements of pop, electronic, house and retro sounds, often inspired by British pop culture and nostalgia.
Their debut album, “Foxbase Alpha” (1991) quickly became a cornerstone of the 90s dance scene, with hits like “Only Love Can Break Your Heart”, a reinterpretation of the Neil Young song. In subsequent works such as “So Tough” (1993) and “Tiger Bay” (1994), the group consolidated its identity thanks to an innovative sound that combines dancefloor and sophisticated atmospheres. Over the years, Saint Etienne has maintained a cult of passionate fans, releasing records such as the Swedish pop-inspired “Good Humor” (1998), and “Words And Music by Saint Etienne” (2012), which celebrates love for pop music. Their experimental approach and fascination with musical storytelling have made them one of the finest and best-loved bands on the British alternative scene.
