Ireland's Murder Capital, one of the most promising acts to emerge from the post-punk renaissance of the 2000s, have released a new single, “Can't Pretend To Know,” the result of a quick and intense recording session in Los Angeles, led by producer John Congelton (known for his work with St. Vincent, Angel Olsen, and Sharon Van Etten). The track mixes noise and melody, with guitar feedback at the forefront. Listen to it below.
“Can't Pretend To Know” is described as “a whirlwind of vivid, enchanting colors.” According to the frontman James McGovern, “the song explores a surreal landscape, evoking the delicacy of childhood innocence. The fragile bridges we burn along the path of youth shape us, shaped by every experience and lesson, even by toys, as we play out the roles we're assigned.”
After the success of the album “Gigi's Recovery” and the Clown's Reflection tour, which saw them perform several times in Italy, Murder Capital will return to our country for a single date on October 20, at the Mediolanum Forum in Milan, opening the concert of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.
Although they belong to the new post-punk trend that has been established since the second half of the 2010s, Murder Capital represent the most romantic, dark and painful wing of the genre, which prefers poetic reflections on death and brotherhood, fear and healing to verbose political assaults. They established themselves with two albums released in the space of three years: “When I Have Fears” (2019) and “Gigi's Recovery” (2022)
