Fiona Apple has created a cover of “Heart Oof Gold” by Neil Young for “Heart of Gold: The Songs of Neil Young Volume I”, a new album-tribute released yesterday.
Apple proposes a faithful reinterpretation of the Young class, without altering too much its arrangement and focusing on reproducing the method of reflection and desire that characterizes the song. Apple's voice always remains in its warm register of counterattack, creating a contrast with the thinner stamp of the original Young interpretation. And as always, its emotional ability to give weight to each individual word also emerges in its version of “Heart of Gold”. Listen to his cover below.

“Heart of Gold: The Songs of Neil Young Volume I” is the first part of a series of two tribute albums. The project boasts a tracklist full of leading names, including Fiona Apple, Courtney Barnett, Brandi Carlile, Mumford & Sons, Sharon Van Etten and Lumineers. A tribute that goes beyond the musical dimension: the proceeds of the album will in fact be intended for Bridge School, an institution founded by the deceased wife of Young, Pegi, to support children with serious physical disabilities and difficulties in language. You can listen to the album in streaming below.
Although not released a new album since 2020 (“Fetch the Bolt Cutters”), in recent years Fiona Apple has still made several singles, covers and collaborations. He recently participated in the new song of the Waterboys, “Letter from An Unknown Girlfriend”, and last year he lent his voice to the song “All in Good Time” of Iron & Wine. In addition, in 2024 he recorded a Latony cover by Don Heffington for another tribute album.
As for Neil Young, he recently joined forces with Joan Baez and Maggie Rogers for a version of “Rockin 'in the Free World” during the Fighting Oligarchy meeting organized by Bernie Sanders in Los Angeles. In addition, it will be one of the headliner Of the Glastonbury Festival this summer and has numerous dates on tours in North America.
