After the debut that took place with “The Reckoning” in 2021, clear Laurenne (Smackbound) and Noora Louhimo (Battle Beast) return to collaborate for a second album, entitled “Falling Through Stars”.
The title-track that opens the disc is immediately a nice piece, where the union between the two singers seems to work very well: in fact, on the occasion of the first full-length, we noticed as the songwriting by the spouses clear and Nino (the husband, guitarist of the Thunderstone and the Hevisaurus, from which the Dahlberg acquired the surname) had given us the impression of being confirmed to us To measure more than Laurenne, with the Louhimo who had tried in some way to adapt. However, if the initial tracks seem to approach the characteristics of the latter more, it does not seem to us that this happens in general for the duration of the album or, at least, if it could be in the intentions, some observations must be made.
After the title-track, in fact, we find another of the strong pieces of the disc, “Damned”, an excellent song with Rainbowian veins: in fact, you can see here and there influences of the British group, for example in a track like “Rotten Gold”. Other beautiful songs of melodic metal are “To the dark”, “The cradle and the hardest” FTS “. Compared to the first album, however, in general, there are many more concessions to acoustic songs: we therefore find a beautiful nostalgic ballad as” All for Sale “and good or bad almost all the final part of the disc, with the final” David Bowie & Clide “or still” Loud and Clear “, characterized by” Wait “. Very intense interpretations, truly creepy, while “Let the light be free” is a middle ground, with persuasive stanzas and a harder refrain.
The protagonists of the songs are obviously the splendid voices of the two interpreters, but there is still a certain care also for the instrumental parts, with the same Nino Laurenne on the guitar and with an authentic band to support the two Finnish singers.
Of course, undoubtedly in this album we try to privilege the great interpretative qualities of Laurenne and Louhimo, however such a massive presence of acoustic parts (in about half of the album) risks creating a sort of hybrid compared to the premises with which this project had started.
Re -reading us therefore to the initial speech, it is true that perhaps Laurenne tries to try their hand at a little different territories than the debut disc, but at the same time there are fewer metal songs and therefore it cannot be said that songwriting goes so much in the direction of the characteristics of the Louhimo; Indeed, this is forced in turn to try a field, so to speak 'neutral' with respect to his usual, still asserting his versatility and his interpretative qualities.
In general, however, there is a greater harmony between the two voices, which demonstrate that they know each other better mutually and manage to be more complementary: this aspect undoubtedly benefits a lot for the success of the disc, in fact composed of a series of very pleasant songs, thanks to the splendid vocal harmonies created by the two protagonists.
