LA NIÑA, “GUAPPARÌA”: meaning of the song
With the author, producer and multi-instrumentalist at his side Alfredo Maddalunowith this song THE NIÑA – to the century Carola Moccia – reveals the first piece of a musical journey which, starting from the essence of the city of Naples, tries to respond with love and authenticity to the processes that consume it today, impoverishing its land, culture and image.
GUAPPARÌA in fact, it uses music as a tool to investigate and reflect on reality, exploring the contradictions of a system that on the one hand flaunts faith and traditions (Tien' 'and sant', cry 'to God but no chiagne for those who die) and on the other feeds a consumerist narrative of the city, glamorizing its problems and reinforcing stereotypes and distortions.
LA NIÑA, “GUAPPARÌA”: lyrics of the song
Guapparìa 'e miez 'a via, sprang' 'e fierro and golden cross
Tien' 'and sant', cry 'to God but no chiagne for those who die
Guapparìa 'and signurìa, ugly 'on the inside' and beautiful 'on the outside
I came to you for two lire to the one who robbed you of the gold
Without love one cannot sing, without love one cannot play
without love, without love, Guapparìa has no heart
Wow, what a mania, I want to look at everything
But yes' moraines in Scampia go around 'a capa 'a llà
Tarantelle and guapparìa, what's going on in this city
'Na whore' 'and company when I don't want to
Without love one cannot sing, without love one cannot play
without love, without love, Guapparìa has no heart
