It's time for a new album for Kvad too: the Norwegian band has been around for a relatively short time (there is no information on a precise year of birth, but the first demo is from 2022) and yet it is already on the third chapter of its discography.
Led by the multi-instrumentalist Peregrinus (author of all the music and who plays all the instruments here, except for the drums, edited by Lord G) it offers us a black metal that has its roots in the typical sounds of its land.
Indeed, he proposes the ambitious project of creating a 'lost classic', a record that can sound exactly like the classics of the genre. The main references therefore range from the initial Burzum to other names from the 90s such as Isvind or Hades Almighty.
So expect a very raw production, glacial riffs in standard E, profuse screaming and drums devoid of any trigger, with even those typical synth incursions to enrich the arrangements: in fact, it all seems to come out of the two-year period 1995-1996.
Not much remains in the head of the songs taken individually, but overall this “Sort Skogmesse” is a not bad album, of decent workmanship. However, it must be said that it doesn't seem to shine in the crowd: it's a job well done but it sounds very (too?) similar to the artists from which it takes inspiration.
We can therefore recommend this album to lovers of the genre and to those looking for new records that sound as similar as possible to the cornerstones released in that historical period.
