The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is a little over a month away, and the presenters and performers have just been announced. The list includes Busta Rhymes, Dr. Dre, Demi Lovato, Dua Lipa, Ella Mai, James Taylor, Jelly Roll, Julia Roberts, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Lucky Daye, Mac McAnally, Method Man, Roger Daltrey, Sammy Hagar, Slash, and the Roots.
They’ll be on hand to honor 2024 inductees Mary J. Blige, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, Ozzy Osbourne, A Tribe Called Quest, Alexis Korner, John Mayall, Big Mama Thornton, Jimmy Buffett, MC5, Dionne Warwick, and Norman Whitfield.
What hasn’t been announced is who exactly is honoring who. One can make some educated guesses since it’s much easier to imagine Dr. Dre inducting Mary J. Blige than, say, Foreigner or Peter Frampton. It’s also easy to imagine Method Man fetting A Tribe Called Quest, Sammy Hagar speaking for Foreigner, Kenny Chesney paying tribute to Keith Urban, and Slash presenting to Ozzy Osbourne. Julia Roberts might be on hand for Cher, but then again, she did star in Hook along with Jimmy Buffett. Maybe she has some memories to share? At this point, it’s impossible to connect anyone with 100 percent certainty. (That said, we’re 99 percent sure about Keith Urban and Dr. Dre.)
We also don’t know if Ozzy Osbourne will make a rare live appearance, if the surviving members of Foreigner will reunite onstage, or if Cher will choose to sing at an event she said just last year she wouldn’t attend for “even a million dollars.” We do know she has changed her mind and will attend. “I’m going to have some words to say,” she said earlier this year. “I’m going to accept it as me.”
The ceremony will air live on Disney+ from the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 19. An edited version will air New Year’s Day on ABC.
