Jessica Pratt has announced her first new album in five years. Here in the Pitch arrives May 3 via Mexican Summer, and its lead single, “Life Is,” is out now. The new song comes with a music video—which she co-directed with Colby Droscher —where a kaleidoscopic Pratt sings about being stuck in a time loop as lights burst around her. Watch it below.
Inspired by the end of Los Angeles’ hippie era, Here in the Pitch is intentionally hypnotic and seedy, the result of Pratt becoming “obsessed with figures emblematic of the dark side of the Californian dream,” she has said. It’s the fourth full-length album of her career and follows 2019’s Quiet Signs.
Later this year, Pratt with go on tour in support of Here in the Pitch. After performing at Primavera Sound in Barcelona on May 31, she will trek across Europe in June and the United States in July, performing in major cities throughout both countries. Opening select shows will be Joanna Sternberg. Check out the complete list of tour dates after the jump.
Last year, Australian pop star Troye Sivan sampled Pratt’s “Back, Baby,” taken from her 2014 album, On Your Own Love Again, for his song “Can’t Go Back, Baby.” Pratt was surprised that Sivan was a fan and happily approved the use, telling Pitchfork, “‘Back, Baby’ was recorded to a cassette tape in a tiny bedroom 10 years ago, so it was really unexpected to get a request from him. Like everybody else, I find Troye to be irresistible.”
