Jelly Roll and MGK took over The Tonight Show stage to showcase their song “Lonely Road” with the help Travis Barker and a group of musicians and back-up singers. The singers joined forces around a flaming trash can, which Barker temporarily used as a drum set. The musicians later sat down at Jimmy Fallon's desk to croon a few verses.
“Lonely Road” is a collaboration between MGK and Jelly Roll, which was released earlier this summer. The anthemic song was produced by Barker, Charlie Handsome, BazeXX, and SlimXX, and interpolates “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver.
“We worked on “Lonely Road” for 2 years, 8 different studios, 4 different countries, changed the key 4 times, and this Friday you'll hear we finally got it right,” MGK shared about the song. The duo released a music video for the track in July featuring their respective significant others, Megan Fox and Bunnie XO.
Over the weekend, Jelly Roll performed as part of the season premiere of Saturday Night Live. He played “Liar” and “Winning Streak,” both from his forthcoming 10th studio album, Beautifully Brokenwhich is set for release Oct. 11.
On Friday night, Jelly Roll headlined Madison Square Garden, where he surprised fans with an array of special guests, including Post Malone. Together, they performed “Losers,” off Malone's F-1 Trillion album, marking the song's live debut.
Jelly Roll sat down with Fallon to discuss his recent success and his forthcoming LP, as well as his experience on Saturday Night Live. “It was so fun,” he said of being on the sketch show. “I was more nervous for the sketch, obviously, because I'm a fish out of water in the music business and I'm a double fish out of water when I was there.”
