If there is an element that, at first glance, makes one doubt the success of a grindcore record, it is the length of the songs.
It may seem like a cliché, but when the average number of songs in an album is around two minutes (in a genre that makes brevity its strong point) we are faced with two possible scenarios: either the sound has been enriched with other sounds , or the broth was diluted a little too much. This second album by the Swedish Järnbörd is placed halfway between these two scenarios.
The band from Malmö, already active since 2017, offers a grindcore with some crust veins from time to time, which owes a lot to Nasum and to that series of compatriots and non-national groups who have continued that discourse – see Afgrund, Splitter or the much better known Rotten Sound Finns.
If their first album, “Gör Om, Gör Fel”, followed the path of the names just mentioned without adding much else, this new “Filmer För Blinda”, expresses the band's desire not to be necessarily pigeonholed into one genre.
As others have done before, they dabble in some noise rock digressions with “Rockens Heraldik” and even slightly rock'n'roll with “Vi Ska Ätas, Vi Ska Dömas”. There is also a cover (twisted compared to the original) of “Flickan In Sön” by singer-songwriter Björn Afzelius.
These elements therefore make this a not completely poor album. It may seem counterintuitive: usually bands (if they are not good at experimenting) can end up distorting a musical proposal that is initially successful.
In their case, Järnbörd, start from a less than inviting base and enrich it with something extra that makes everything a little more noteworthy. The remaining songs, in addition to knowing much that has already been heard, are excessively long and do not have that bite that makes a work worthy of this genre pleasant (which in the first thirty seconds or at most within a minute, when it is done well, has already won over the listener).
“Filmer För Blinda” has good starting intentions, but the final result is forgettable.
