Actor was celebrating his birthday at a restaurant on Friday when the accident took place
Jamie Foxx was injured during an altercation on Friday, which required stitches, CNN reports. The actor was celebrating his birthday at a restaurant in Beverly Hills when the accident occurred.
“Jamie Foxx was at his birthday dinner when someone from another table threw a glass that hit him in the mouth,” a spokesperson for Foxx told the outlet. “He had to get stitches and is recovering. The police were called and the matter is now in law enforcement's hands.”
The Beverly Hills Police Department issued a statement following the altercation, though the actor's name is not mentioned. BHPD said it responded to “a reported possible assault with a deadly weapon” at the restaurant where Foxx was celebrating his birthday on Friday at around 10 pm
“Upon investigation, officers determined that the reported assault with a deadly weapon was unfounded,” the statement continued. “Instead, the incident involved a physical altercation between parties.”
It added: “The BHPD conducted a preliminary investigation and completed a report documenting the battery. No arrests were made.” The BHPD said it will continue to investigate the incident. It's unclear what prompted the incident, and no further details were provided.
The altercation comes on the heels of Foxx revealing his recent health struggles in his Netflix special, What Happened Was.
In the special, which arrived Tuesday, Foxx says he was in the midst of filming his upcoming Netflix movie Back in Action co-starring Cameron Diaz when his “mysterious illness” began and he does not remember the following 20 days. He reveals doctors suspected he had a brain bleed that led to a stroke last year, which required surgery. He also describes his medical emergency as being a near-death experience.
“He may be able to make a full recovery, but it's gonna be the worst year of his life,” Foxx emotionally recounts the doctor telling his sister during the special.
