There is little to do, the Inglorious are undoubtedly one of the best examples of hard rock if we talk about the last decade of this musical genre. Since their homonymous debut – from 2016 – and until the last “We Will Ride” of 2021, Nathan James and members have given lovers of more classic sounds, four works of unquestionable class. From there, however, a break lasting to date. And the present reports a revolutionized band, at least in part; The bassist and founder Colin Parkinson's founder, leaving the formation in 2018, returns, while the guitarist Richard Shaw, known for his militancy in the Cradles of Filth, and the drummer Henry Rogers, progressive musician, arrive to complete the guitarist.
“V” is the fifth seal for the English band, a disc still rich in hard rock vibrations, but which has a more powerful sound than in the past. The band still focuses on the work and the understanding of the couple formed by Colin Parkinson, bassist of the band, and the aforementioned Nathan, authors of the compositions that are outlined on powerful guitar riffs, full -bodied lines of bass and on the full and vibrant euching of the singer.
A sound charge that is confirmed, without hesitating a moment, from the first seconds of the “Testify” opener, where the bass fervent of Colin is detonated without hesitation, while the guitars immediately show the muscles. And the groove released by the following “Eat You Alive” is truly exciting, also thanks to the most melodic vocal lines. The massive and penetrating impact of “Devil Inside” is able to create cracks in the ground thanks to heavy guitarroni and with a modern touch, while in the following “Say What You Wanna Say” the filtered voice of Nathan during the verse is still accompanied by a pounding bass, before opening up on a more classic refrain. The single “Stand” lights up showing all the vocal versatility of James, which alternates more rough moments with vibrates rich in energy, with extreme ease. And in the midst of all these good pieces, and to a couple of less exciting songs, perhaps the best time of the entire listening comes with the coupled formed by “In Your Eyes” and “Silent”. The first – contrary to what could imagine the title – opens on a guitar riff once again robust, but to make the difference is a compact and sparkling refrain. The second begins in a decisive way, only to show a softer and more intimate approach through a song that fully center, and which can remember something of the Rival Sons.
The Ingloriuos really do well what seems easy, but it is not at all: playing a musical genre like this, these days. A pinch of more varieties-since practically all the pieces have a very similar structure-and the lack of a real super-hit capable of being immortalized over time, prevent this work from completely taking anything. But “V” is a record that, laying its bases in classic hard rock but dyeing with current and modern sounds, manages to create a mixed mix once again.
