The expected film debut of The Weeknd lands in Italian theaters as a special event on 23, 24 and 25 June. “Hurry Up Tomorrow”, distributed by Notorious Pictures, is the first film starring Abel Tesfaye – real name of the Canadian artist – and accompanies the release of the album of the same name released last January.
Directed by Trey Edward Shults, already the author of “Waves – The Waves of Life” and “It Comes At Night”, the film is a psychological thriller with visionary atmospheres. At the center of the story, a sleepless musician at the mercy of his mind, whose existence is distorted by the apparition of an enigmatic unknown that undermines all certainty. Next to The Weeknd, to his first test by the leading actor, two well -known faces of contemporary cinema: Jenna Ortega (“Scream”, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”) and Barry Keoghan (“Saltburn”, “The spirits of the island”).
The film represents the visual and narrative extension of “Hurry Up Tomorrow”, the latest album signed with the pseudonym The Weeknd. Published January 31, he has already been acclaimed by critics and has reached second place in the Fimi rankings. With this album, the trilogy started with “After Hours” ideally closes and continued with “Dawn FM”, and a new phase opens in Tesfaye's career, which has announced the intention to definitively abandon its name of art.
In the meantime, the global success of The Weeknd shows no sign of stopping: his hit “Blinding Lights” has become the most listened song of always on Spotify, exceeding 4 billion streams, while in Italy “Die for You” recently reached the 31st position in the ranking. A growing enthusiasm that prompted Notorious Pictures to focus on the Italian public, bringing the event to the room.
