Six decades ago, America got introduced to a new band known as The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show. “It was like being in the eye of a hurricane,” John Lennon says of Beatlemania in the new music documentary Beatles '64. “It was happening to us, but it was hard to see.”
Now streaming on Disney+, Beatles '64 is produced by Martin Scorsese and directed by David Tedeschi, taking fans deeper into the band's debut with rare footage and interview clips alike. “The movie goes from New York to Washington DC and Miami, which was chaos,” Tedeschi told Rolling Stone in an interview. “There's over 17 minutes of footage that's never been seen before.”

The doc “tells the tale of how John, Paul, George, and Ringo transformed US culture, right from the moment they landed at the newly renamed 'John F. Kennedy Airport.' They were greeted at the airport by swarms of screaming fans, who are the heroes of this movie along with the band,” Rob Sheffield writes in Rolling Stone's movie review. “Beatles '64 is full of fangirls who raise hell in the streets, buzzing on a sudden sense of their power, fully aware the world is watching them and absolutely confident they're making history. The Beatles and their new mobs of US fans built a whole new future together.”
