The show returns on Oct. 3 while singer’s track from Hit Me Hard and Soft arrives Friday
Summer is coming to end while love and school intertwine for Charlie (Joe Locke), Nick (Kit Connor), and their friends in the third season of Heartstopper, which released a new teaser on Monday. As they plot parties and events, they also consider where they want to go to college, and according to a description for the new episodes, “everyone must learn to lean on those they love when life doesn’t go to plan.”
The new clip for the upcoming season finds Charlie grappling with telling Nick how he really feels as a snippet of Billie Eilish’s song “Birds of a Feather” plays. The track appears on Hit Me Hard and Soft, which arrives on Friday.
The short trailer opens on Charlie practicing how to tell Nick that he loves him in a mirror. “You don’t have to say it back yet. I don’t want you to feel pressured,” he tells himself. But when Nick arrives on his doorstep, he hedges. Meanwhile, Eilish’s song soundtracks the romantic (and cute) buildup. “I’ll love you ‘til the day that I die,” she sings as the words “I love you” pop from Nick’s head and encircle Nick’s.
In Season Two of the feel-good hit, Rolling Stone’s Alan Sepinwall praised it for capturing the beauty of queer teen love. “Heartstopper is excellent at a lot of things, but its greatest strength is in capturing the giddy highs of those beautiful gay teenage experiences,” he writes in RS’ review of last season. “It is a show overflowing with emotions — both joyous and terrifying ones — in a way that’s palpable whether you’re close in age to its main characters or more in the teacher or parent demographic.”
The Netflix series returns with eight episodes on Oct. 3.
