“Happiness is for those who don't need it,” sings Bono in a new, old song released today by U2. It's about Happinessone of the pieces included in How to Re-Assemble an Atomic Bombthe collection of outtakes that will be included in the reissue of How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb which will be released on November 22nd.
The Irish call it a “shadow album”: there are 10 songs taken from the sessions that gave life to the 2004 album, which turns 20. A month ago they published two more, Country Mile And Picture of You (X+W).
«The sessions for How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb» said The Edge «it was a very creative period for the band, we were exploring a lot of song ideas in the studio. We were inspired to revisit our early musical influences, and it was a moment of deep personal introspection for Bono as he was trying to process – dismantle – the death of the father.”
The 10 songs recovered “were left aside at the time, but with hindsight we recognize that our initial instincts about whether they could be part of the album were right, we were on the right track.”
