Hamnet Blu-ray
Available March 3
Hamnetdirected by Chloe Zhao and starring Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal, is a fictionalized account of the death of William Shakespeare's son. The film is based on the 2020 novel of the same name by Maggie O'Farrell. The acclaimed film has proven to be a strong awards contender, having won Best Motion Picture, Drama at the Golden Globes and Best Actress for Jessie Buckley.
Rolling Stone's review of the film noted, “It's near impossible to imagine a screen adaptation capturing the grief and catharsis rendered so vividly on the page, even if O'Farrell was signed on as a co-writer. And yet: Filmmaker Chloé Zhao's rigorous, moving, and altogether transcendent take on channeling pain into work and finding the will to go on is every bit the book's equal.”
In addition to Hamnetanother Best Picture contender got a digital release. The acclaimed Brazilian drama The Secret Agent is available on Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home as of Feb. 3. In the film, Wagner Moura's Marcelo is caught between corrupt cops and hitmen during Brazil's military dictatorship. It will also get a Criterion Collection physical release, with a date yet to be announced.
